Marine Wives Learn Pole Dancing

For Exercise, for Marine Husbands

Typical scene from a Pole Dancing class anywhere in America.

San Clemente, CA resident Collette Kakuk has a REALLY different job….she teaches wives of Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, San Clemente’s neighbor, and those at Miramar Air Station, to do pole dancing.  And she teaches them for FREE!

She says that the women love taking the classes to keep them feeling fit and sexy while their husbands are away on Marine assignment in Iraq.

She says that even though some of the moves she teaches are ones like strippers use, the routines are “about confidence, not dollar bills and drunken behavior.”

She DID go to strip clubs to get her ideas, she says, but affirms that her classes are about women losing inhibitions “in a safe, non-judgemental setting.  Some middle-aged clients now walk around the house naked for the first time ever.  And some have purchased a $450 pole that they mounted in their bedroom.

Kakuk, 38, started OC Pole Fitness in Aliso Viejo last year after working as a gym trainer.

Mr. CoolA highpoint of the annual Dana Point, CA Festival of Whales (March 3-4, and 10-11) is the rows of dozens of booths near Hennesey’s Tavern on PCH. They always have one of those big inflatable slides that the kids skim down, and plenty of non-profit booths handing out information about water quality, save the whales, Dana Point Marine Museum, the toll road, and much more.

I always buy a pair of sun glasses, but only if they have polarized ones. I am always astonished that people even WEAR sunglasses that are not polarized. Polarization reduces glare, hugely. To see an example of how polarization works in sunglasses, go HERE

In CA, ALL sunglasses sold have to be UV protected ones. But how many car accidents happen because someone cannot see a head on car coming at them due to intense glare from the sun, off water, or off a wet pavement.Polarized Sunglasses take all shapes

I like the wrap around style above because your peripheral vision is not blocked. And I love being able to see when there’s intense glare coming at me. EVERYONE should throw away all non-polarized sunglasses and get ones that ARE. It should be a law, the difference in safety is just that great. But don’t look for the sunglasses manfacturing industry to spread the word. They are happy with the reduced manufacturing cost and thus super-huge profit margins in making either just DARK sunglasses, or (in CA) UV sunglasses. —Bill

Bill Koelzer and Greg HoganBill Koelzer (L) and Greg Hogan

What a cool guy Greg is. His site is huge and the perfect community site for Orange County. He goes around to Orange County events—this the Dana Point Festival of the Whales this weekend and next—and takes pictures of people in these public places. Then he post them on their sites and invites the people to go see them, or someone else tells them to go.

In this way, he gets many visitors to his site and they keep returning because the site is PRIMARILY a calendar of upcoming events in Orange Count. He even has a real estate section where people can post their own listings for sale. And he has places for Realtors to enter their contact info and get banners.

I talked to him about doing some banner trade outs between his great site and the #1 site for “san clemente,” www.san-clemente.com, which I manage. Also, my wife Debbie will have an ad in his site soon, for real estate sales and the MLS.

Go check out his site at www.SouthOCbuzz.com. Drop Greg an email from there and tell him I sent you. Bill Koelzer

San Clemente and all of South Orange County, CA has GOT to be one of the world’s greatest places to live.  Not only do we have the ocean a couple good Tiger Woods drives away from where we live on Camino Capistrano in North San Clemente, but it is also about 20 degrees cooler in the summer than, say, Irvine is.  Plus, we are about 6 degrees warmer than inland during the winter.

Most people have to drive across much of Orange County to reach the beach.  Not us!  We San Clemente, Dana Point, Laguna Niguel, Capistrano Beach residents just happen to own real estate here that’s literally MINUTES from the beach.

And what beaches we have, too.  We have several state beaches within a few minutes drive of each other, and many county and city beaches, plus many city parks right by the ocean.

Then there’s the two ocean gems that everyone here just loves….the nearly quarter-mile-long wooden pier in San Clemente, and the fabulous yacht harbor in Dana Point.

While perhaps not WORLD-class attractions, both of these sites overwhelm you with their inherent style, beauty and grace.

When my Realtor/Broker wife, Debbie Ferrari,  has out-of-area home buyers visiting here and she is driving them around showing them the area, she ALWAYS shows them the incredibly lovely pier and harbor.

She especially makes a point of driving them up that steep hill that traverses the cliff in Dana Point Harbor.  You end up at the top near the Chart House and from there the view of the harbor below is so stunning that it almost seems like a surreal Disney set for a movie.

I will report periodically on more aspects of Orange County life, but visually, it’s hard to beat the San Clemente pier and the Dana Point Harbor to represent truly exquisite sites to make our real estate even MORE valuable….!!!!!
